The Truth About Dragons - Part 4
Of Dragons
Forget everything you were taught about dragons.
It is wrong. Naught but mythology born of lies; perhaps well intended perhaps not.
The dragons’ truth, long ago buried, burned, lost, and hidden.
*
Long before dragons learned the importance of Remembering – what humans call History – dragons descended from the same line of prehistoric dinosaurs that produced the great whales. Mammalian, not reptilian, dragons are the terrestrial kin of those mammoth water mammals. Draconian gestation is in-womb. Single births are most common; although, like humans, multiple births do occasionally occur.
Not unlike the human species, the species draconian, consists of numerous races. Human mythology has given these such names as worm, serpent, wyvern, and others, but dragons have no different names for the different races. The only acknowledgment dragons give to their differences is their tendency not to interbreed; however, dragonologists have concluded (with draconian agreement) this is primarily due to the physical inability of the different body types to compatibly join and successfully produce offspring.
Dragons have an innate understanding of the natural interconnectedness of all things. It is believed this characteristic is how dragons came to be defenders of nature. This is the most important lesson of dragons. The core of dragon knowledge that humans have twisted and attempted to destroy.
Failure to acknowledge the interconnection of all things has been at the root of myriad human conflicts. Although that awareness has remained with humanity, it is consistently denied in order to justify false dominion and wrong-headed destruction. Humans believed themselves superior to all other species. Hence, knowledge of dragons as defenders of nature needed to be erased from human history.
Hark. Hear it declared now, again, for now and forever: Humans are not the – or a – dominant species. Humans are part of the web of life, an equal species, none of which can thrive without the others. Dragons understand this interconnection. It is high time humans grasp it, too.
Dragon Remembering precedes Human History. Dragons do not have a written history at risk of distortion and revision. Their history is remembered unerringly in their genetic make-up. From the time of the first Remembering, dragon memory is part of every dragon; it is a group memory.
Dragons were included in the first histories of humankind, for dragons were then an acknowledged part of Earth.
Alas, as humans even today claim dominion over nature, thus it has been for as long as dragons Remember. Because of this conflict of dominance, while some humans wrote historical accounts including dragons, other humans systematically destroyed those records. They were lost or destroyed many times before they were again lost, when the greatest library of all previous time, in Alexandria, was destroyed.
The last destruction of humans’ written dragon history occurred circa 1300 AD, when even dragonfriends were deceived into the betrayal of dragons. This deception nearly caused the extinction of dragons. Convinced dragons were hateful and dangerous, mislead humans engaged in a crusade to kill all the dragons.
It has long been suspected most human documentation of dragons and dragon encounters was captured and hidden by forces hostile to dragons -- in the deepest tombs under what many humans consider hallowed ground. Yet, due to effort and forethought of dragons and dragon advocates, when the betrayal by humankind became evident, some of those documents were preserved and safely stored in Terreity.
Due to the dragons’ collective Remembering, dragons need not preserve these histories for themselves. Perhaps more than all other living species, dragons understand the importance of protecting all things natural – nature – and of the intended and necessary interconnection of all things. Dragons protect and preserve these records for the benefit of humankind, that they might one day again be receptive to their place within the naturally balanced system of life.
Human history is replete with events and crises based upon the denial of this interconnection. Consequently, humans have done and continue to do harm to the land, water, air, and other species.
Without dragon guidance, humans are out of balance.
It was with great regret the dragons departed Earth, leaving behind this great imbalance. Yet their departure was with renewed hope, for the Creators of Terreity offered a second chance for humans and dragons to learn to live together in harmony.
