The Truth About Dragons - Part 3

Demetererer Speaks

“Dragons are intelligent and tolerant. We do not kill indiscriminately, nor do we eat humans or breathe fire. Nor do we hoard gold or jewels or any ‘thing.’ Our treasure is Nature. For it is our inherited disposition to protect the land, the water, the air, the betweens, and all the species.

“Our treasures are the golden ruby glow of the rising sun; the sapphires, emeralds, and tanzanite sparkling across the meadows, fragrant with their sweet floral scents; the diamonds bright in the velvety night sky; the wind beneath our wings when we glide through the drifting clouds . . .”

“To set the record straight, dragons are not destructive monsters and never a real dragon has been a hoarder. We are generous and kind. Certainly, we are fierce when justly angered; however, we prefer to live in harmony with all species, including humans.”

Excerpts translated into English from “The First Recording of a Partial Oral History as Dictated by the Elder Dragon, Demetererer.” Recorder: Kushimabramoses. Date lost, estimated circa 3000 BC

My wisdom is not a tale for children. Children remember – until it is taught out of them.

Humans have lost their natural connection to the land. They have forgotten they are of the earth as all creatures.

Human children enter this world aware of the interconnectedness of all. Children hear the mindvoices of all life, accepting that wonder without question and with hearts full of love. It is a beautiful, non-judgmental introduction to life. The young of all species begin thus.

However, as those deeply perceptive human children grow, they are indoctrinated to ignore that openheartedness with which they were born and to believe they are better than other species.

Humans are not, nor have they ever been more intelligent, or better in any way, than other species. They are only different. As we all are.

Different is good. We grow from embracing differences. When we learn of each other, our love of and respect for each other blossoms. In response, the earth blossoms.

Humans’ desire to believe they are better than other species is divisive and destructive. It separates them from the awareness of the interconnectedness of all creatures. Lacking this understanding, humans destroy that which they fear, misunderstand, or use in benefit only of themselves. They risk the demise of all life – humans included – by their self-serving ignorance.

Note: Demetererer is the great, great, great grandmother of Slarnonon and Sanaananan. (You can meet both dragonlings in The Terreity Chronicles.)
